Frequently Asked Questions about Hoisting Chains
Excessive wear on the inside of chain link plates can be caused by improper centering of the sprocket, the chain being pushed to the side, or vibration from inaccurate finishing of the sprocket's axle hole. To remedy this, correct the centering of the drive and driven sprockets, remove the cause of the push, install a guide roller, and check and correct faulty locations, replacing the sprocket if necessary.
Prevent improper flex or bending by addressing rust and corrosion, contamination from particles, deformation due to improper installation, inadequate lubrication, high temperatures, excessive loads, and pin bending. Install partitions to protect the chain, select suitable chain specifications, ensure proper installation, provide adequate lubrication, reduce loads, and provide adequate clearance.
If your chain is winding on the sprocket, it may be due to too much slack or an excessively worn sprocket. Adjust the chain length or distance between axles, install a tensioner, and replace the chain and/or sprocket with the correct-sized part to resolve this issue.
Chain climbing on the sprocket can result from mismatched chain and sprocket sizes, insufficient total arc of contact, excessive load, inadequate back-tension, excessive chain elongation, or misalignment between the chain and sprocket center. Replace mismatched parts, ensure at least three teeth contact, reduce load, adjust tension, replace elongated chains, and correct misalignments.
Unusual noises can stem from inadequate lubrication, winding or rising on the sprocket, loose chain casing or axle bearing, interference with the chain or other parts, or excessive wear. Provide sufficient lubrication, tighten all nuts and bolts, inspect and correct interferences, and replace worn chains or sprockets to eliminate noise.
Prevent rusting by selecting appropriate chain materials, protecting the chain from environmental factors, and applying a rust inhibitor. Additionally, eliminate temperature differences between the inside and outside of the conveyor using insulation to prevent condensation.
Improper roller spin and uneven wear can be caused by excessive load, contamination by particles, improper lubrication, rusting, sideward movement of the inner plate, cracked bushings, and thrust loads. Regularly clean and lubricate the chain, install partitions, select appropriate chain specifications, and inspect and correct installation and load conditions.
